Learn more about the practice of Naturopathic Medicine

What Is Naturopathy?

Naturopathic Medicine is a multi-modal practice that includes areas of conventional medicine such as anatomy, physiology, pathology, chemistry, and biochemistry while also utilizing natural healing methods such as nutrition, medicinal nutrition, phytotherapy (herbal remedies), Chinese methodologies, and homeopathy (among others) to treat the source of illnesses rather than the symptoms.

Naturopathy is a holistic system of complementary medicine that treats the mind, body, and soul and views each person as a unique individual that requires equally unique, personalized treatment.

The five guiding principles of Naturopathy:

1. Strengthening the body's ability to heal itself while doing no harm.

2. Seeing the individual as a whole comprised of body, mind, and soul.

3. Ascertaining and treating the source of the ailment rather than the symptoms, which are but evidence of the body's attempting to heal itself.

4. A Naturopath is more teacher than healer whose function is to guide.

5. Prevention is the most effective method of treatment.

Who should see a Naturopath?

Anyone can benefit from natural medicine by enhancing their general well-being and health or by modifying their dietary habits and lifestyle with prevention in mind.

Individuals with specific issues such as cancer, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, Lyme disease, diabetes,  digestive system disorders, weight issues, lupus, chronic fatigue syndrome, depression, allergies, and other health issues can improve their chances and speed of recovery and their interim quality of life.

Naturopathy uses nutrition in combination with phytotherapy and other methodologies to treat illnesses and ailments in collaboration and coordination with your regular practitioner.

Timeline for new clients

A new client will be asked to bring detailed information to their first visit, including a blood workup, any medications they are currently using, and any nutritional supplements they are taking. The initial interview will last for one and a half to two hours. In-depth information will be gathered about both medical and non-medical history, as well as the client's current life situation. A follow-up meeting will then be scheduled for within the next week.

Recommendations will be given during the second meeting, which lasts for about an hour. After this meeting, a follow-up visit is scheduled for two weeks following the start of the treatment program. At this time, the frequency of future meetings will be decided based on need.
